Our team wasn’t planning on going to Ecuador ... but it quickly became clear that it was exactly where the Lord intended for them to be.. Then, just four days before our departure to India, due to circumstances out of our control, we had to make the difficult decision to change locations. It wasn’t what anyone had envisioned. But we also knew we didn’t want to simply cancel the experience and send students home disappointed.

Students are at the center of the work we do, and alumni remain a part of our community, whether they studied abroad 6 months ago or 16 years ago.

In 2019, what began as a simple online biology requirement for my theology degree at Liberty University unexpectedly transformed my life forever. Little did I know, this academic pursuit would ignite a profound desire to love, serve, and ultimately move to Ecuador with my family.

A pillar of our mission is to prepare and equip students to engage in the challenges of the world. Once students enter college – sometimes even before – they begin to explore the questions of what courses they want to take, what major they want to focus on, and what degree they want to walk away with. Jungle Kids for Christ (JKC), is a mission organization that works in the Amazon Jungle region of Ecuador. They have a couple of different branches that they work with, but the main area being their school.

The Colegio Leonardo Ponce Pozo (CLPP), is a private school in Quito, Ecuador that helps provide an excellent education for students with physical and mental disabilities at a relatively affordable price.

Light in the Darkness is an organization that works with kids and families who are at risk of human trafficking, experiencing food insecurity due to immigration status, and numerous other factors that could lead to incomplete education and cyclical barriers.

After spending a semester in Ecuador in Spring 2018, Regan Beck was deeply impacted by the support of her resident coordinators, the Living and Learning staff, and the experience of living in Christian community. After completing her degree, Regan then joined the staff as an RC with Living and Learning in Ecuador. Later, she moved to Arizona and worked as a Resident Director at Grand Canyon University then moved to her home state, Indiana, where she now serves as a Student Life Director.

In March of 2024, a group of 12 engineering students and two engineering faculty from Anderson University traveled to Misahaullí, Ecuador to partner with Jungle Kids for Christ on their Antioch Christian Academy (ACA) campus to develop a backup water supply system.

This trip provided students with an amazing opportunity to apply engineering processes and tools to a real-world project, work with external clients, and grow in cross-cultural understanding. Most importantly, students were able to glorify God in their work and to be the hands and feet of Jesus as they loved their neighbor as themselves.
