Basic structures are introduced gradually with intensive practice in the use and comprehension of oral and written Spanish. 

Students watch, practice, and perform Sevillanas, a regional variety of flamenco specific to the culture of Sevilla. Students learn about the attire, customs, folklore, and have an introduction to the world of flamenco. This course culminates in a public performance.

En el curso de Intermedio 201 se considera que los alumnos ya están preparados para entender y expresarse en español tanto de forma oral como escrita. Lo importante es la capacidad de comunicar de forma fluida sin atender tanto a la corrección formal. A través de las cuatro destrezas del lenguaje, expresión oral y escrita, comprensión oral y escrita, el alumno afianzará unos conocimientos fundamentales para este nivel. Prerrequisitos: El estudiante debe tener un nivel Principiante de Español.

Church History is a survey of the development of the Christian Church from the close of the New Testament period to the present time, with special attention to the role of Rome in the development of Christian thought. The course will provide an examination of the church as an institution and as a people. Thus, while context, dates and names establish the background for historical understanding of the institution of the church, ideas will also be discussed from an explicitly evangelical perspective. Students will therefore gain a historical basis for understanding current ideas and trends in the church and in ministry.

The goal of this course is to understand the nature of a worldview and the function of faith and reason in developing a worldview. To define and analyze eight basic worldviews (Christian theism, deism, naturalism, nihilism, existentialism, Eastern pantheism, New Age spirituality and postmodernism). To explore and critique six major world religious traditions: Judaism, Christianity, Taoism & Confucianism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. To offer an internal critique of each worldview and an evaluation from the standpoint of historic Christianity.

This course covers the most significant elements of Spanish art: Moorish art, Romantic, Gothic, and Baroque, including paintings of Murillo and Velázquez; modern art, including 20^th century painters such as Picasso and Dalí. The use of videos and slides as well as visits to museums and monuments are included. 

A study of topics in modern Spanish culture such as the political, social, and economic factors impacting modern Spain; traditional family structures in transition; religion, customs, and immigration; the impact of the European Union; generational differences; the impact of COVID-19; economic reliance on tourism; recreation and entertainment. The course will include theory on these topics as well as exercises in attending events and following daily news through digital and print media. May be repeated.

This course examines the interaction among Christians, Muslims, and Jews in medieval Spain (7th to 15th centuries)—covering their peaceful coexistence, their ideological and military tensions, and their culture.

This interactive course will explore our relationship with food from a biblical perspective while discovering Spanish food culture. From the first page to the last page of the Bible, food is ever-present. It can be considered a key to appreciating the created life, coming to terms with the life broken by sin, and tasting the life redeemed by Christ. In and with food passes culture and the new culture generated by the Gospel. Food creates community, shapes existence and nourishes the celebration of God. Is it possible to do a biblical theology of food? Is it possible to promote a Christian culture of food that extends beyond the dinner table? Yes! And what better place to engage with this theme than in Spain! Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! (Psalm 34:8)

Este curso está concebido para que los estudiantes puedan expresarse oralmente en español en los diferentes ámbitos sociales, tanto en situaciones cotidianas como profesionales. Se pretende, en definitiva, poner en práctica todos los conocimientos adquiridos en este idioma para que el estudiante mejore su expresión oral y pronunciación, adquiera un vocabulario más extenso y obtenga una mayor fluidez. A través de textos, vídeos, audios y otros recursos comunicativos como debates o tertulias, el estudiante tendrá la oportunidad de expresar sus ideas utilizando el español. Es requisito necesario para este curso poseer el nivel intermedio de español.

Este curso está concebido para los estudiantes que tienen un cierto conocimiento de la lengua española pero que todavía necesitan ampliar su léxico y el dominio de ciertos usos y construcciones gramaticales de mayor complejidad. Se pretende, en definitiva, desarrollar las cuatro destrezas del lenguaje, comprensión y expresión escrita y comprensión y expresión oral para así alcanzar un grado óptimo de comunicación en español. Es requisito necesario para este curso que el estudiante tenga ya hecho, al menos, un curso de gramática de nivel intermedio.

This course aims to provide an overview of Spanish literature from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period, situating it within its historical and cultural context. To this end, special attention will be paid to broad concepts such as eras, intellectual and literary trends, genres, and the like. At the same time, specific authors and individual works will be studied to illustrate these concepts and to deepen the practice of literary analysis.

Students will receive an orientation to agencies that assist Spaniards in need. They will also gather to receive functional linguistics training in their specific area of service (e.g., hospital setting, education, youth work, elderly, etc.). Students will then serve volunteer positions with Spanish churches, agencies, and independent organizations whose aim is to improve the social welfare of Spanish citizens. Students meet regularly with staff to reflect on their service experience for further spiritual and intercultural development in a classroom setting as well as complete a final presentation.
