306 (E): History of Spanish Art: 3 Credits
Course Description (3 credits): This course covers the most significant elements of Spanish art: Moorish art, Romantic, Gothic, and Baroque, including paintings of Murillo and Velázquez; modern art, including 20th century painters such as Picasso and Dalí. The use of videos and slides as well as visits to museums and monuments are included.
Course Objectives:
Students will acquire the foundational knowledge to recognize and distinguish the most significant artistic expressions, styles, and artists of Spanish art.
Students will learn methods for analyzing artworks by considering the characteristic features of each style and artist within their historical context.
Students will become familiar with and use the artistic terminology necessary to describe artworks within their historical context.
Students will develop an appreciation for and a critical perspective on artworks, applying the knowledge gained in class.
Students will be able to appreciate and value art as an expression of an artist, culture, or civilization.
