Debunking the Myth "I can't study abroad because I won't have any support or friends around me"

Packing your suitcase and catching a flight to spend a semester away from your campus is a big step—but it's a myth that you'll be embarking on that journey without support throughout your semester! Living & Learning has designed each of our programs with support and community as a central pillar of our students' experiences; if you love your campus life experience, small group, and community then studying abroad with L&LI might just be the perfect fit for you!

Will Someone Be there Through the Application Process?

The short answer is yes!

Our Enrollment Team will be there to support you from before you apply until you're headed to the airport. Maybe you've met Vince, Ashleigh, Bethany, or Sara on your campus or chatted with an L&LI ambassador—that's your support team from application to onboarding!

As you explore your options, you can connect with someone from our team to answer your questions and give you insight as you decide which program is best for you. Then, when you're ready to apply, the professionals at the study abroad office on your campus can help make sure you're meeting your school's deadlines, approving your classes, and support you as you navigate submitting your application requirements.

The L&LI Enrollment Team will also be there along the way as you check off your onboarding steps and start to get prepared and excited for your upcoming adventure! You'll join a Pre-Departure Call before your semester beings with the other students in your program, your program's staff, and your Enrollment Manager.

Then, you'll head to the airport, board your flight, and start your semester away; you'll be greeted right when you arrive by your program staff's smiling faces!

No One I Know is Doing the Same Program As Me ...

You're not the only one! Many of our students have started the semester not knowing other students in the program. Our program staff and resident coordinators are dedicated to facilitating the space for community—each of our programs has an orientation where you'll meet your fellow students and participate in activities to acclimate you to your new home.

Some stories from alumni ...

Riley says that saying yes to mini-adventures in the city built some unforgettable memories with friends she met in her program.

Abby started her journey not knowing what program she wanted to do then found herself in Ecuador laughing harder with friends than she ever had before.

Cassian had such an impactful experience that he signed up for another semester and studied abroad in both Rome and Quito!

And Grace and Anna didn't know each other before their semester began and left as lifelong best friends.

What's Different About L&LI?

Some study abroad programs provide apartment-style or independent housing for students and students navigate the city, getting to and from classes, and the day-to-day mostly on their own.

All Living & Learning programs provide housing with your fellow students in the program and a resident coordinator. Students live in a community-style setting, are in small groups led by their resident coordinator, share community meals weekly, have weekly chapel and worship, community events like Thanksgiving dinners, movie nights, holiday parties, camping trips, and so much more!

Christian community is central to each of our programs—these are the friends you'll have late night study sessions with, dive into scripture together, and plan weekend adventures with. All that to say, you won't be alone on your journey!
