Who You Are

Living and Learning International (L&LI) seeks a passionate follower of Jesus who is committed to the discipleship of others to serve as their Student Life Director and Chaplain for the Quito, Ecuador campus for a minimum of three years. This position involves high relational engagement, mentoring and team collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent experience

  • Ability to effectively explain the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the great commission

  • Understanding of how to live like Christ and work and live in community with others

  • Has made a confession of faith in Jesus Christ and is consistently pursuing a life in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit

  • Strong in-person, written, and online communication skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and equity in the workplace

  • Prior experience working with study abroad programs, or living abroad

  • Direct experience working with university students

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work without direct supervision, and as part of a close-knit team

  • Ability to collaborate with team members to identify, establish, and promote best practices

  • Passion for and dedication to promoting the vision, mission and values of Living and Learning

The Role

Oversee student life training and operations

  • Train new RCs on protocol, position duties and expectations, including the creation and execution of RC training, manuals, and other training materials

  • Meet regularly, manage, supervise, & perform ongoing training with RCs on a weekly basis, both as a staff and individually; lead student life meetings

  • Provide specific training to RCs and student life staff, particularly related to case studies, topics awareness, and attending/listening/asking question(s) skills

  • Coach RCs in handling minor discipline issues related to apartment living, such as curfew, house night attendance and chores

  • Provide job performance reviews to RCs

  • Act as a liaison and reference for the Program Director in handling discipline and/or other student life matters

  • Aid in the administration of student life’s response(s) to student needs

  • Oversee the Resident Director in the administration of student life’s response(s) to student health needs, apartment living and maintenance, student activities

  •  Walk through and communicate throughout the application and hiring process of new RCs, alongside the Program Director

  • Travel and accompany the cohort on some excursions: 

    • Jungle

    • Baños/Galápagos Islands

    • Ecuador Coast

Chaplaincy

  •  Lead Chapel Program: 

    • Design weekly content for interactive devotions/small groups

    • Incorporate worship, prayer, silence and solitude, small group/community group program

    • Setup and teardown of space, organize community meal

  • Provide resources and options to connect students with church communities in Quito

  • Be available for meetings with students, e.g. 1 on 1 meetings

All staff

  • Budget and account for all funds given for discipleship meetings and Student Life team funds

  • Plan and attend L&LI staff meetings weekly and YouthWorld meetings biweekly

  • Speak into students’ lives and listen with a holistic development perspective

Compensation

  • Stipend

  • All meals provided on trips and Wednesday nights

  • 6 weeks of vacation in the summer, 1 week of vacation for Christmas

  • Summers have flexibility for remote work

  • Yearly all staff training (location TBD each year)
